Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson Oak Cheeseboard (1960/70's)
Price: £ Sold Description: A later Robert "Mouseman" Thompson solid oak decorative waxed cheeseboard, with carved mouse detail on the handle. The mouse is also adzed, and has has a high back, indicating the later period of manufacture. The cheeseboard has been used as evidenced by the knife marks on the board, however, this does not detract from its overall appearance. Board dimensions are 38cm x 18cm x 5cm
This cheeseboard has been handcarved from a piece of quartersawn solid English Oak with influences from a bygone age, fumed with ammonia to give a dark nut brown colour. Golden medullary ray flecks, wavy grain, and interlocked grain are all visually enhanced with quarter-sawn english oak. The subtle “adzed” finish is similar to beaten copper but with larger, shallow indentations and any movement reflects the light in a beautiful way to make the cheeseboard look almost “alive”.
Mousey Thompson oak cheeseboard
This later version of cheeseboard with the characteristic mouse on handle has been made from naturally seasoned oak which provides the rich grain pattern with subtle adzing.
The beautifully curved handle with well defined mouse.
Solid english seasoned oak cheeseboard with classic oval shape.
The hand carved mouse is the identity of the master carver.
